Why Buyers Choose Thermoplastic:
- Weight: Considerably lighter than rubber at the same diameter, which matters on long runs and hand-handled hose.
- Cost: The most economical option across most general-purpose applications.
Applications to Avoid:
- High Temperature Transfer: PVC has a limited temperature range. For hot fluids, rubber or stainless steel braided hose is the right call.
- Solvents and Hydrocarbons: Standard PVC can swell, soften or stress-crack when exposed to strong solvents and some fuels and oils. Use an oil-resistant compound or a rubber hose instead.
- Using Delivery Hose for Suction: A pressure hose without a reinforcing helix will collapse the moment a pump pulls vacuum on it. The two look similar coiled on the shelf, but are not interchangeable.
- Using Suction Hose for Delivery: Standard suction hoses are not suitable for high pressure or frequent use under pressure, unless they are specifically a suction and delivery hose. They can be used for open-ended discharge (which is different to delivery under pressure), but sustained use under pressure will weaken the hose and lead to premature failure.
