BOOMER is United Flexible's premium rubber abrasive vacuum hose — built for the most demanding abrasive applications in New Zealand such as hydro excavation, rock drill rig tailings extraction, and mining and quarry slurry transfer.

The BOOMER is a heavy-duty mandrel-built rubber vacuum and suction hose for operators who need maximum service life in severe abrasion conditions. With a full vacuum rating, 10 bar working pressure, and a ¼" thick gum rubber tube specifically engineered to absorb and resist abrasive impact, the BOOMER is built to outlast other vacuum hoses in the applications that destroy cheaper products. It is United Flexible's top-specification abrasive vacuum hose.

Features

  • ¼" thick red gum rubber tube absorbs impacts from sharp debris rather than allowing debris to cut and gouge — this is the defining feature of the BOOMER and the reason it significantly outlasts thinner-tubed alternatives in highly abrasive applications.
  • Full vacuum rated — handles the maximum vacuum capacity of the highest spec hydro excavation units without collapsing or deforming under sustained suction.
  • SBR/NR blend conductive cover provides exceptional abrasion and ozone resistance for outdoor industrial applications.
  • Cold Flex construction — hose remains flexible at low temperatures making this well suited to winter operation in colder regions of NZ.
  • Conductive cover and steel grounding wire dissipate static electricity build-up, keeping material flowing smoothly and reducing static discharge risk.
  • 10 bar working pressure — suitable for combined vacuum and pressure applications.
  • 3:1 safety factor.
  • Available in 4", 5", 6", 8" and 10" ID (102mm, 127mm, 152mm, 203mm, 254mm) — the sizes most commonly required for boom hose on vacuum excavators and other heavy duty industrial vacuum equipment.

Construction

  • Tube — ¼" thick red gum rubber, abrasion and impact resistant.
  • Reinforcement — High tensile textile fabric with embedded steel helical wire.
  • Cover — Corrugated black conductive SBR/NR blend, abrasion and ozone resistant.

Applications

  • Hydro excavation (hydrovac) boom hose — the benchmark choice for vacuum excavator trucks where maximum service life and full vacuum performance are required.
  • Rock drilling rig tailings & rock dust extraction — the BOOMER performs exceptionally well in this application. The combination of abrasive rock tailings, high vacuum, and the need for sustained service life is exactly the environment this hose is built for.
  • Mining and quarry slurry hose — highly recommended for operations handling aggressive slurries where service life and reliability under heavy-duty continuous use are critical.
  • Wet and dry abrasive material handling in civil, construction, and industrial environments.

Is BOOMER right for my application?

Choose BOOMER when: your hydro excavation unit operates at or near full vacuum; you need maximum service life in severe abrasion conditions; the application is rock drill tailings extraction; you need a heavy-duty mining or quarry slurry hose; or the cost of hose failure and associated downtime makes paying a little more for a premium product a straightforward decision.

Consider the GeoVac instead when: the application is standard commercial hydrovac work not requiring full vacuum and the higher initial price of BOOMER is an obstacle; you need a more easy-to-handle extension hose (the BOOMER is heavier and stiffer than the GeoVac, making it less suited to extension hose use); or other abrasive applications where budget is a primary constraint and the application conditions are not severe.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the BOOMER the premium choice for hydro excavation?
Three things separate the BOOMER from economy vacuum hoses: its ¼" thick gum rubber tube that absorbs abrasive impact rather than wearing through; its full vacuum rating, which handles the maximum capacity of industrial hydrovac units without deformation; and its -40°C to +100°C service temperature range. These aren't marginal differences — in severe applications, these factors determine whether the hose lasts a few months or many times this long.

Is the BOOMER suitable for rock drilling rig tailings extraction?
Yes — this is one of the BOOMER's strongest applications. Drill rig tailings involve a combination of jagged and highly abrasive pieces of small rock & dust, sustained vacuum, and often extended operating periods that rapidly destroy standard or economy vacuum hoses. The BOOMER's thick tube, full vacuum rating, and durable construction make it well suited to this demanding work.

Is the BOOMER a good choice for mining and quarry slurry?
Yes. Mining and quarry slurry applications typically involve heavy, aggressive materials under sustained periods of operation — exactly the conditions the BOOMER is designed for. Where service life and reliability matter more than initial cost, the BOOMER is the recommended specification for slurry handling in these environments.

How does the BOOMER compare to the GeoVac?
The BOOMER is United Flexible's premium vacuum hose; the GeoVac is a quality but lower spec alternative which is similar to most other hydrovac boom hose products offered by our competitors in NZ. The BOOMER is full vacuum rated, has a 10 bar working pressure, a wider temperature range, and a thicker tube. The pricing on BOOMER is usually somewhere in the range of 40-60% more than GeoVac for equivalent sizes. The GeoVac is suited to standard commercial hydrovac work and is lighter and more flexible — making it the better choice for hydrovac extension hose applications. The BOOMER is heavier and stiffer, designed for boom hose use on vacuum excavators and for demanding applications like rock drill rig tailings and mining slurry where manual handling of the hose is not required and service life is the priority.

Why is the BOOMER not ideal for extension hose use?
The BOOMER is built for heavy-duty boom applications — its thick tube and robust construction mean it is heavier and stiffer than economy vacuum hoses. For a fixed boom arm on a vacuum excavator, this is not a problem. For an extension hose that operators need to handle and manoeuvre by hand, the weight and stiffness become a practical issue. For hydro excavator extension hose applications, United Flexible recommends the GeoVac, which is lighter and more flexible while still performing well in this role.

Is the BOOMER rated for full vacuum?
Yes, BOOMER is rated for full vacuum — it maintains its bore shape and structural integrity under the full vacuum of industrial hydrovac units. This is a key specification that separates it from economy vacuum hoses, which are typically rated to 0.8–0.9 bar vacuum and may deform or restrict flow at higher vacuum levels.

What fittings are compatible with the BOOMER?
The BOOMER is compatible with any industrial hose fittings which fit to the hose using an internal hose tail and is matched to the hose bore size. United Flexible supplies compatible fittings — contact us to discuss your requirements.
